Summer Internship at IAF

IAF stands for Indian Air Force. The name itself arouses feelings of pride and patriotism. I applied for summer internship at IAF with the same feelings and wanting to know more about the respected organisation. I have joined at IAF station, Chakeri, Kanpur(Unfortunately. I was expecting Chandigarh but maybe they wanted to save on the train fare.)

I am associated with 1 BRD (Base Repair Depot). Now the maintenance command of the IAF is divided into various depots dealing with a variety of engines and aircrafts. 1 BRD deals with the complete overhaul of AN-32 aircraft (pic attached). It takes about 6 months for a complete overhaul of a single aircraft. The job is basically to go by standard manuals supplied from Russia (Antonov-the manufacturer of the aircraft). It was interesting to know many things about aircrafts in general and AN-32 in particular.

I am given a project as well to do in these 8 weeks. Given a stress analysis report by NML(National Metallurgical Laboratory), we are supposed to estimate how much life extension can be given to the main landing gear of the AN-32 aircraft. We are working on the project and are almost finished with it now.

Apart from me, 6 more guys from IIT Kanpur and 10 guys from IIT Kharagpur are also doing the summer training.

Will continue later on... Gun-firing simulator is the next thing to appear on the blog ...

FIFA world cup is here!

Following soccer for the first time in my life. I used to find cricket more exciting because of the luck factor so much involved in the game. But it is there in soccer as well, as I discovered. You never know refree is gonna give a foul in whose favour and sometimes absolutely wrong off-sides are given or ignored.

Brazil is much above other teams in terms of game-play but sometimes players tend to get selfish and do not pass the ball thereby missing the chance of a sure-shot goal.

Ghana also surprised with their quick attacks and superb passing between the strikers. Their one more strength is the ability of their players to injure players of the other team. They must have got the highest number of yellow cards. But Brazil were too hot for them to handle.

Brazil will face serious competition from Argentina who reached the next round with a superb goal and arguably the best goal of the tournament so far.

Now soccer seems more intriguing than cricket because you don't have to bear with the silly advertisements at the end of each over.
